Professional, Responsible, Inspiring. These three traits set Ms Lim apart from other piano teachers. Since I began taking lessons from her in August 2020, I have grown immensely, mainly because she sets high standards for her students. Under her tutelage, I attained: Distinction in LTCL; Silver award in both the Third Nanyang International Music Competition (NIMC) and the 2021 London Youth Piano Competition.

Ms Lim is detail-oriented and provides effective practice methods for each piece. One example is Rachmaninov’s Études-Tableaux Op 33 in E-flat minor. This piece is highly virtuosic. Thus, she would demonstrate how utilising arm movements can produce a loud and rounded sound with minimal tension. She would also emphasize my fingerings to ensure efficient playing. As for practice methods, she provides me with specific steps to work on the techniques for certain bars. Because of such meticulous teaching, I could perform this piece
comfortably for my exam despite its speed.

Being highly responsible for my learning, Ms Lim would plan my exams and expose me to festivals and competitions. This boosts my confidence in performing and allows me to improve constantly.

 

Finally, Ms Lim has been an inspiration in my musical journey. Instead of just teaching me pieces after pieces, she also discusses the background of the piece and composer, even going the extra mile to share musical information outside of lesson time to
strengthen my learning. Hence, this gives me fresh perspectives when thinking about the interpretation of my playing.

林老师教学专业、办事负责任、以及有着启发学生的精神。自 2020 年 8 月以来,我发现我在音乐道路上成长了不少,而这是因为林老师为学生设定了很高的目标。在她的指导下,我取得了不俗的成绩。例如,我在 LTCL 音乐演奏考试中考取特优的成绩,并且在第三届南洋国际音乐大赛(NIMC) 和 2021 伦敦青年钢琴比赛中,获得银牌。

林老师非常重视细节,所以每一首曲子都有一套有效的练习方法。在学习拉赫玛尼诺夫的音画练习曲(降 e 小调)时,她示范了如何使用手臂来发出即响亮又不刺耳的八度音。此外,她还会强调并纠正我的指法,以确保演奏时不会受到任何阻碍。接着,
她也为每个小节定下了具体的练习步骤,而这加快了我学习曲子的速度。就因为有了林老师系统性的教学方式,曲子的速度尽管再快,我在考试时仍然能轻松的演奏。

其次,林老师对学生的学习进度负责任。她帮助规划我的钢琴考试,同时给了我演奏及比赛机会来磨练自己。这让我对钢琴演奏产生了更大的信心,并鼓励我继续追求更高的弹奏水准。林老师也在我的音乐学习道路上给予我不少的启发。她不仅教会了我如何专业的弹奏曲子,还会和我一起讨论作品背景及作曲家的生平。她也会利用课外的时间分享更多相关的音乐资料,以加强我的知识。因此,我就有了许多新想法,这也有助于我更好的思考及诠释曲子。

我的音乐道路之所以那么的精彩和充实是因为有了林老师的指导。我非常感谢她所为我付出的努力!
